Noise Equivalent Power of Background Limited Thermal Detectors at Submillimeter Wavelengths

چکیده
With the advent of large submillimeter telescopes at high, dry sites, the atmospheric background noise in a moderate bandwidth can be low enough to challenge the ability of instrument designers to produce su ciently low noise bolometers to be background limited. We compare the predictions for the noise power of a bolometer observing through an emissive atmosphere, considering the e ect of atmospheric absorption, telescope optical e ciency, and detector optical e ciency, with measurements through the atmosphere over Mauna Kea.

PUBLICATION III Submillimeter-wave kinetic inductance bolometers on free-standing nanomembranes
We introduce a microwave submillimeter-wave detector based on an integrated micromesh absorber and superconducting kinetic inductance thermometer on a through-wafer released sub-micron thick membrane. Equilibrium operation achieved by thermal isolation through the membrane geometry enables operation at elevated thermal bath temperatures of 5–10 K. The bolometer operates in a phonon-noise limite...

Noise equivalent power and time constant of a submillimeter wave hotelectron bolometer (HEB) made from monolayer graphene are analyzed using the lowest electron-phonon thermal conductance data reported to date. Frequency-domain multiplexed JohnsonNoiseThermometry (JNT) is used for the detector readout. Planar microantennas or waveguides can provide efficient coupling of the graphene microdevice...

Outside of the Galactic plane there are two major sources of confusion that limit the sensitivity of con tinuum observations at submillimeter wavelengths the spatial structure of the thermal emission from dust in the Milky Way and the crowding of extra galactic sources at faint levels We present estimates of the noise expected from these two types of con fusion as a function of wavelength and b...

We present the design and performance of a feedhorn-coupled bolometer array intended for a sensitive 350-mum photometer camera. Silicon nitride micromesh absorbers minimize the suspended mass and heat capacity of the bolometers. The temperature transducers, neutron-transmutation-doped Ge thermistors, are attached to the absorber with In bump bonds. Vapor-deposited electrical leads address the t...

In this paper, the noise equivalent power (NEP) of an optical sensor based ongraphene-superconductor junctions in the constant current mode of operation has beencalculated. Furthermore, the necessary investigations to optimize the device noise withrespect to various parameters such as the operating temperature, magnetic field, deviceresistance, voltage and current bias have been presented. By s...
